Very interesting early islamic artefact from Bamiyan, this bowl depicts a smiling musician playing a luth upon a dotted background. It illustrates the brilliant technique of the luster ceramique produced during the early medieval time along the silk road in Iran and Afghanistan.
The monochromatic brownish color on white background was obtained with silver and copper oxydes painting prior the firing.
The outside of the bowl is also decorated with medalions and dots
