Meditating Buddha, Sri Lanka, precambi period, gilt bronze, H 20", W: 14"1 / 2. Very good condition
H :20" W: 15"
16th/17th c CE
The Buddha is shown in a meditating posture, his legs folded and his both hands on his lap.
His round face is carateristic of the pre-cambi Srilankan style, with his long nose and down looking eyes.
A subbtle smile enlightens his face. The only ornament on this statue is the two lines of pearls or curly hair which surround his well combed hair and the flame shapped usnisa on the top of his head.
Srilankan bronzes of this size and quality are rare and this piece is in very good conditon except a minor crack on the right leg.
